17 Problems Only Book Lovers Will Understand

17 Problems Only Book Lovers Will Understand

If you read, like at all - even if it isn't obsessively like me, you will get a kick out of this. The gif's completely make this too.

Undressed - Avery Aster

So I have to say, for someone who has only reviewed books on Goodreads for a little while, it was pretty cool to have an author contact me to tell me she would provide copies of her books to me for honest reviews. This is the first time that's happened - both getting the copies of the books and having an author seek me out.

After going to the sites that provide these ARC's and Reviewer's Copies, I decided then to start a blog, because if I review on Goodreads and Amazon, I might as well have my own blog that does the reviews too right?

DisclaimerCopy provided by Author via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review

Okay, so here is my take on the first book in the Manhattanites series by Avery Aster - Undressed.

First off, this has nothing to do with the actual story, but I have noticed a lot more frequently that multiple authors have been using the same book cover.

Case in point - the cover for Undressed is a mirror image of Katie Ashley's The Proposition which was published a year before Undressed.

Look familiar?

This fact doesn't bother me, but it makes me think - hey you just wrote a book don't you kind of want your own unique cover?

Anyhoo, I digress. Back to the review.

I'm no newbie to erotica but Day-um, Avery Aster writes quite the sex scene. I mean, at certain times even I was blushing a bit.

This definitely had the Sex in the City/Gossip Girl feel to it with it's fashion-laden plot and descriptions. While this is not something I look for in a book, and honestly I tend to skip over the designer labels and head to toe fashion descriptions, I was impressed with Aster's knowledge on the topic.

Undressed is a hot read. Like Smoking Hot. So hot you should probably only read this at home. The scene where Lex spies on Rocco, Jemma, and Luigi is pretty scorchin'. You get to travel along with Lex to Italy and experience New York Fashion week. I love that Lex is relatable - she used to be chubby so she doesn't like to show a lot of skin and has had it rough being the daughter of a famous rock star who recently died and a crazy mother who hasn't been the same since he died.

This is where the BUT comes in.

BUT I didn't love it. And the big reason is due to Massimo and Lex as a couple.

It felt like Massimo and Lex's relationship went from all out fighting and venom to super-love. I wanted to see more of their relationship blossoming and really get a knack for them falling for each other. I didn't really know why they were in love minus the fact that they were attracted to each other. And when they fought, they didn't really 'talk it out'. One of them just seemed to kind of drop it and everything would be okay again. I guess I like to see hints of that real relationship stuff in the books I read.

The verdict?

It fell somewhere between a 2.5 and 3 for me, so I'll round up since the sex scenes were unique, which is not common these days when it comes to erotica.

Kristen Ashley - Rock Chick Series - Books 5 - 9

Welcome back ladies (and hopefully some gents). Now onto the last books in the Rock Chick series, and some of my favorites!

It's time for my all time favorite KA hero. And this is saying A LOT coming from me because, let's face it, it's hard not to love all of her heroes.

Rock Chick Revenge (Rock Chick #5)

This is Luke

and Ava's

story.

First off, Ava...can totally relate to her. She had a crush on her hot neighbor boy Luke Stark when she was a young, chubby girl with low self esteem thanks to her mean mother and sisters. When she overhears her sisters saying how gross she looks with Luke, she decides to turn her life around and lose the weight.

Turns out, she's a bombshell and one kick ass chick. When her best friend gets in a bit of trouble, she decides to look up Luke and see if he can help.

and ladies - Luke Stark?

HOT, HOT, HOT!

Seriously, Holy Alpha Male.

"“Did you pay for the repairs on my Range Rover?” I asked him.
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“Why not?” he answered.
I felt my hold on my temper slip.
“Luke, it’s my car.”
“Ava, you’re my woman.”
I ignored the melty feeling that gave me too.
“So?”
“So you’re my woman, I take care of you.”
“Luke – “
“This isn’t up for discussion.”
“It sure as hell is!”
“I’m thinkin’, as payback for the hickey, I want you in that pink teddy thing tonight.”
Was he for real?
“Luke!”
“Later.”
Disconnect."
-Rock Chick Revenge, Kristen Ashley

But, he's also one of the sweetest guys around too.

“I've liked you since you were eight years old. You made me laugh. You understood me. You looked out for me when no once else fuckin' bothered and you acted like you thought I could move mountains and I needed someone who thought that about me.”
-Rock Chick Revenge, Kristen Ashley

Ava is hesitant to trust how Luke feels. She's had a bad history with men. Cue evil ex who kidnaps her and violates her. Billy is seriously one AWFUL guy. I loved that we got to see Lee bond with someone other than Indy.

5 flipping awesome stars!

IF you are going to read one book, I'm all about this one. But seriously, read them all.

Now onto...

Rock Chick Reckoning (Rock Chick #6)

If I had to pick one in the series, this would probably be my least favorite. But, that isn't saying much because there is no book in this series I want to give less than four stars to.

This is Mace

and Stella's

story.

Oh, AND we get a little snippet from each of the past Rock Chick's. Each previous Rock Chick has a chapter from their point of view. It was AWESOME to be able to see our favorite girls again.

So back to Stella and Mace. A while ago they used to be together and they were both quite in love. Then Mace ended it. Stella was in a band and her band was a little messed up...they got into trouble a lot. So she assumes since Mace tended to take care of their shit while they were together, that he got sick of it and left her. Not the case. Mace does reveal why in the story, but I'll let you find that out yourself :)

On her way to take care of something for one of her band members, she shows up at his house to see Luke and Mace hanging out outside. Cue gunfire. Turns out one of the enemies of Nightingale Investigations wants to retaliate by getting the Rock Chicks. During their escape, we find out that all the Rock Chicks have been ambushed. Luckily everyone is ok. Well except Stella who was shot. She tries to tell Mace but he keeps interrupting her, then she decides not to tell him. Well he finds out and he's pissed.

Lot's more drama. I mean, this book out of all of them is super action packed. And Mace wants Stella back, big time. And like all of the Hot Bunch, Mace refuses to give up.

We get some cool music influence in this book since Stella does covers.

4 stars for this one!

Onto another GREAT one.

Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick #7)

This is Hector Chavez (Eddie's brother)

and Sadie's

Story.

This one is a heartbreaker. Hector, now out of the DEA, is working for Nightingale Investigations. Sadie's father, a career criminal, was his last case. He busted the drug kingpin and now he's in prison. Sadie is running her own art gallery. But she's not as out of the life as she wants to be. The Balducci brothers are stalking her because they think the one to score Sadie deserves to be the new head of the organization.

She goes to Lee for help but no one is very happy with her because they think she is an Ice Princess who hurt Hector. So when she can't explain to Lee exactly why she needs help (as Hector is in the meeting with them), Lee says no and refers her to someone else.

Well here is where the story breaks your heart. And it's only in the first couple of chapters.

Ricky Balducci decides to take what he wants...Sadie goes running back to the Nightingale offices bloody, beaten, and seriously injured. And yes, she was also raped.

Hector and Lee both blame themselves for various reasons. Sadie goes to live with Ralphie and Buddy (LOVE them, they are like Todd and Stevie) and becomes a new person. Hector gives her time to heal and, well, it's no secret she's the one for him. With Hector comes the Rock Chicks and Sadie's never had friends. Hector gives her everything she had been missing.

My initial read of this was only four stars but after the second read, I bumped it up.

5 Stars. Because Sadie is one strong Mamita and Hector is just plain awesome.

And last, but DEFINITELY not least

Rock Chick Revolution (Rock Chick #8)

This is the one we've been waiting for since Rock Chick!

This is Ally Nightingale

and Ren's

Story.

Now, in the past couple of books we had been given the low down on the fact that Ally and Ren were together. BUT that doesn't make their story any less AWESOME.

Ally is a bit lost. She has tried just about every career choice you can try, but the only thing she's good at is the family business - investigating. And damn if she isn't good at it.

Enter Ren. We met him back in Luke and Ava's story. He had it bad for Ava but she chose Luke. So Ally takes care of Ren after his and Luke's fight and they end up getting down and dirrrrty. But oops, he says Ava's name while he's asleep. Ally's pissed and heartbroken because she thinks she's found 'the one'. We finally clear up the misunderstanding, she tells Ren what she wants to do with her life, and he's not down with that. The job comes with it's own set of dangers and he doesn't want Ally in danger.

Ally is one strong woman. She knows what she wants in life and NO ONE is going to tell her otherwise. Not Ren and not even her brothers.

Throughout the series we have grown to love Ally. She is smart, loyal, funny and totally crazy but in an awesome way. This book made me love her even more and want to BE her. She is a super strong heroine which I absolutely love in a book, and an aspect that isn't easy to find. She stayed true to herself and what she wanted without compromising that for anyone. It's impossible not to respect and admire that.

I think hot, sweet Ren said it best:

“Had no fuckin’ clue how deep you ran.”
“What?” I whispered.
“Everything you do, what you eat, what you drink, how you live, how you love, how you work, all of it runs deep. You give it everything. It means everything to you.” His hand suddenly caught mine that was resting on my thigh and he gave it a squeeze. “Come here, baby.”
I bent to him and his hand went to the small of my back, sliding up my spine and into my hair.
“Teach that to our kids, will you?”

-Rock Chick Revolution, Kristen Ashley

5 Stars. A kickass chick who has a deep sense of self worth and a hot Italian? Makes for one FUN story and hot read!

So, that's it for this series. I'm sad that it's over, BUT KA revealed at the end of Rock Chick Revolution that we will get to go to LA and see Mace's crew. New Hot Bunch?! I sure hope so!

Kristen Ashley - Rock Chick Series - Books 1 - 4

So, as this is my first official posting, I think it is pertinent that readers know that I adore Kristen Ashley. And what better way to start out than to pay homage to that kick ass Rock Chick than to do a quick review/over view of her Rock Chick series?

So, in case you are part of Crazy Town and haven't read anything by KA, she pens some a-may-zing Alpha Males. Seriously hot. They don't need to say a lot to get across that they are the shit and they aren't shy about giving their women the business.

I'll start out with the first half of the series - books 1-4 out of 8.

Books are rated out of 5 stars - 5 being AWESOME and you should go get it right now and 1 being don't waste your time, I wish I hadn't wasted mine.

Let's start with...

Rock Chick #1 - Rock Chick

This is Lee Nightingale

and Indy Savage's
Story.

And what a story it is.

Indy has grown up as practically part of the Nightingale clan. She and Ally are best friends, Ally's brother Hank is practically Indy's brother and Lee...well, Indy has always had a thing for Lee. So much so, that she has frequently thrown herself at Lee hoping that he will notice her as more than just Ally's best friend. When her last attempt end with a "I see you as a sister", Indy realizes it is time to move on.

The barista at Indy's bookstore gets into some trouble, which causes Indy to get into some trouble, which leads her to need help from badass Lee Nightingale who owns Nightingale Investigations - a group of super hot guys who are also super badass.

Cue whirlwind romance. Indy is hesitant to give over her heart after Lee has dismissed her so many times. Lee is determined to make her see that she belongs with him. Bombs, kidnappings, and a crazy guy named Tex all tie into a roller coaster of a good time with Indy Savage - the ultimate Rock Chick.

This is absolutely a 5 star read for me. A great kickoff to an awesome series. Not only are the guys badass - but the girls KICK ass. Seriously, they are not your normal heroine. They carry stun guns and don't take shit from anyone. If there is anything Kristen Ashley can do - it's give you a female heroine to admire and she does it in spades.

Time to move on to...

Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick #2)

This second installment of the Rock Chick series is

Eddie

and Jet's

Story.

In a posting on her blog (http://www.kristenashley.net/menu/blog.html), Ashley reveals that Eddie and Hank (1/2 of the focus of Rock Chick #3) were never meant to get their own books but their stories 'came to her'. Well thank goodness they did because their stories totally hooked me.

Jet totally captured my heart. She works herself to the bone to take care of her mother who recently had a stroke by diving her time between her job at Fortnum's (Indy's bookstore) and as a waitress at Smithie's - a 'titty bar'. She doesn't think she's anything special and totally has the hots for Denver PD Detective Eddie Chavez.

Jet's deadbeat dad breezes into town not only asking her for money but bringing with him a crapload of trouble that falls on Jet's shoulders. As with all Ashley men, Eddie knows who he wants and will stop at nothing to get her. And he wants Jet.

We are introduced to Daisy - the Dolly Parton look alike with a criminal husband and a heart of gold. She takes Jet under her wing and becomes a bona-fide addition to the Rock Chicks. I LOVE Daisy! She's lived a hard life and is one of the sweetest women in the book - always watching their backs and having fun while she's at it.

This one was a four star read for me. Eddie was one hot Mexican-American and damn if he didn't pursue Jet to the fullest extent. I could totally relate to Jet. She was shy and awkward and tended to put her foot in her mouth but she was also strong and passionate and loyal. It didn't hook me quite as much as Indy and Lee's book, but still a great read and a great follow up to the first one.

Time for book 2 that KA didn't plan to write, but Hank 'spoke' to her and damn if I'm not glad he did.

Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick #3)

The third book in the series is

Hank

and Roxie's

Story.

Roxie is Tex's niece and she's in a bit of a situation. She fell for the wrong guy and she wants out of that relationship but every time she tries to run, he finds her and drags her back. So the only thing she can think of is to go to her Uncle Tex and make sure this is the last time Billy can come looking for her.

The minute Roxie steps into Fortnum's and sees Detective Hank Nightingale, or 'Whiskey' as she comes to name him, she falls for the second time in her life. However, she doesn't think she deserves the 'good guy'. And like all KA men, Hank is determined to show her she's wrong and they are meant to be together. He even (subtly) uses his adorable lab Shamus to try to convince her to take a chance on him. Then she is abducted by her ex and while on a wild ride across state lines, she becomes even more convinced she isn't good enough for Hank.

Luckily these men don't take no for an answer.

“I'm protecting what's mine."...
"I'm not yours," I said.
"You're welcome to think that but it doesn't change the fact that you are.”
-Kristen Ashley, "Rock Chick Redemption"

Roxie and Indy's mad dash through the haunted cornfield is perhaps one of the funniest scenes in a book I've ever read because I've been there - those haunted trails are fricken crazy.

Oh and Roxie's parents? HILARIOUS. Seriously, I would read a book just about them. Herb and Trish are the shit.

“Sweet Jesus! Sweet, sweet Jesus!” Mom called to the Savior, caught up in the divine intervention that was Hank and me.
I narrowed my eyes at her. “Stop cal ing Jesus, Mom. Hank’s gonna think you’re weird,” I snapped.
“She is weird,” Dad said.
“I’m not weird,” Mom returned.”
-Kristen Ashley, "Rock Chick Redemption"

 5 Stars!
I LOVE Hank. Seriously, there's something about the last name Nightingale - it just makes you awesome. Lee's awesomeness is different than Hank's...it's hard to explain, you just need to read it. You'll understand.
And Roxie, seriously I love that chick. Even when I went back and reread this series, I got excited to reread this one because I love her.

Now time for the final book review of this post - Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick #4)

This is Vance

and Jules's (AKA The Law)

Story.

Jules is a social worker and has been close with three young boys - Park, Roam, and Sniff. Then Park takes some bad drugs and Jules gets pissed. Seriously pissed. And you don't want to mess with this chick.

Angry because of what happened to a good kid, she decides to take on the drug dealers of Denver on her own. Slashing tires, coating cars in vegetable oil and saran wrap, you know...the usual antics. Basically Tex thinks she's the shit cause he's all kinds of crazy too.

The book starts out where book 4 left off - Jules aiming a gun at a local drug dealer right outside of Fortnum's. Vance takes off after her and thus begins the roller coaster story of Vance and Jules. He's the badass ex-con recovering alcoholic, she's the 'head cracking mamma jamma' virgin.

“She’s a badass motherfuckeress. She’d kick your ass soon as look at you. You’ve clapped your eyes on The Law. Count yourself lucky, sucker. Now, what’ll it fuckin’be?”

- Kristen Ashley, "Rock Chick Renegade"

Vance has never had anything that has only been his...until Jules.

“Outside my bike, never has anything important in my life been just mine."
My body stilled, so did my heart, and my eyes locked with his.
He started moving again, slowly, deeply and he kept talking. "Always castoffs, leftovers, used, sometimes even food from the dumpsters."
My heart started beating again, only to trip over itself; my breath came fast, not only from what was happening to my body but what he was saying.
"Vance-"
His lips came to mine, his hands moved out of my hair and went to the side of my face and he stared in my eyes, pressing deep inside.
"Mine," he muttered, his deep voice hoarse, that fierce undercurrent there.
His tone caused a shiver to run through me, straight through to my soul.
Then he kissed me.”

- Kristen Ashley, "Rock Chick Renegade"

And seriously, Vance is super swoon worthy. He takes Roam and Sniff under his wing while trying to show Jules that he's the right guy for her despite her reluctance.

What I still don't get is - why do these girls fight these men?

Drama ensues because the drug dealers are pissed at Jules and there is a heartbreaking and action packed end.

And this book

5 Stars because Juliet Lawler is one bad ass chick.

Stay tuned for my reviews of books 5-8. Luke Stark is next and he is the Big Daddy of all Alphas. You don't want to miss this shit.
